Nick Weldon BA Hons, Piano, Double bass, Improvisation

One of the leading jazz pianists in the UK, Nick is also an accomplished double bassist, and member of several orchestras. He is currently a professor of jazz piano and improvisation at Trinity College of Music, London, and at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff. He runs courses and workshops at his Shoefactory Studio in Northamptonshire.

Trevor Tomkins Hon ARAM, Drums, Percussion, Improvisation

As well as being a major contributor to the British Jazz Scene (Gilgamesh, Carr-Rendell Quintet), Trevor has been a driving force in UK Jazz Education for more than 40 years. He studied formally at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama,, and informally with the legendary Kenny Clarke.
There are few jazz drummers or teachers of jazz drums in the country who have not passed through Trevor's Placement Academy!
Currently professor of jazz drums and improvisation at the Guildhall.

Steve Waterman Trumpet, Flugelhorn

Steve began as a student at Trinity College of Music, and initially made a career as a busy session player in shows and latin bands. He then devoted himself to composition and improvisation, and has since become one of the most demanded players on the British and European jazz scenes, leading his own small groups and an 18 piece Jazz Orchestra.
He travels widely, (recently to Spain, Finland, Latvia and Cuba) coaching bands of all sizes and abilities, and is also professor of Jazz Trumpet at The Royal Academy of Music and Trinity College of Music, and visiting Jazz Trumpet Specialist at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Andra Sparks BA Hons jazz singing, vocal technique

Belfast singer Andra Sparks came late to jazz, having started life as a classical singer specialising in English and French song. She now leads her own quintet featuring British Jazz Great Art Themen, and has two acclaimed albums to her name.
Andra initially trained as a general teacher, and now combines a busy performing schedule with a position as teacher of singing and vocal technique for the Northamptonshire Music Service.

Mark Lockheart, Saxophones, Improvisation

Having trained at Trinity College of Music, where he now also teaches, Mark Lockheart has become one of the foremost saxophone players of the contemporary scene, with performing credits high in the worlds of jazz (Perfect Houseplants), folk (June Tabor), rock (Radiohead), and orchestral music (Mark Anthony Turnage). He is also well known as a composer, with commissions from the Cheltenham Jazz Festival, the NDR Big Band, the Arts Council, the Peter Whittingham Award and BBC Radio 4.

We seek to combine our active playing careers with our mission to spread awareness of jazz and the skills of improvisation to musicians of all ages and levels of ability.

Pricing

This is a general guide to our usual rates, subject to negotiation for bespoke projects.

Daily Rate:

£250 per musician, or £300 if the event runs into the evening. Plus travel expenses and (where applicable) accommodation.

You may find cheaper teaching, but you won't find better!
